The poolThe birth of the property dates back to the early 1500s, when in 1543 Lucrezia di Luca de’Rossi brought as dowry this Villa, known as Montecchio, to her husband Bartolomeo Benricevuti. In 1773 it passed to Urbano di Salvatore Urbani. Other noble families succeeded each other on the estate. The Salimbeni Bartolini family is credited with the 19th-century construction of the panoramic terrace in the valley, where the original stone coat of arms with the famous motto ‘Per non dormire’ (Not to sleep) still stands. It later took the name of Villa Palagi, the name of the family that owned it until the 1960s. It is currently owned by a Florentine family, which has carried out a complete restoration, returning the Borgo and the Villa to its original splendour.
